NBSC STRENGTHENS EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS THROUGH Q3 NATIONWIDE SIMULTANEOUS EARTHQUAKE DRILL
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) strengthened its earthquake preparedness as it participated in the Third Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) this afternoon, September 10, 2026, at the NBSC campus. The campus-wide exercise brought together students and employees to practice proper earthquake response and evacuation procedures.
The drill was conducted under the guidance of the Disaster Response and Emergency Action Management (DREAM) Team, in coordination with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Unit and the Quick Response Team (QRT), with the support of College President Dr. Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, CESE.
The activity provided students and employees with an opportunity to practice standard earthquake response procedures. Participants performed the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” maneuver before proceeding in an orderly manner to the designated evacuation area. At the assembly point, designated personnel conducted a headcount to account for all participants.
The exercise also featured simulated emergency response scenarios, including a search-and-rescue operation and fire suppression, allowing the participating response teams to practice coordinated actions during an emergency.
Following the drill, a post-evaluation was conducted during which representatives from the different groups discussed what went well and identified areas for improvement. The discussion focused on coordination, clarity of instructions, and the timeliness of responses throughout the exercise.
The post-evaluation provided an opportunity for the College to assess the coordination of its campus safety units during an emergency exercise, particularly in terms of communication and response time. The insights gathered will serve as useful points for improving future emergency responses.
Through the participation of its students, employees, and safety response teams, NBSC continues to strengthen its capacity to respond to emergencies while promoting preparedness and a culture of safety across the campus.
The successful conduct of the Third Quarter NSED underscored the importance of preparedness, coordination, and timely action in protecting the NBSC community. Through regular drills and continuous evaluation, the College remains committed to building a safer and more prepared learning and working environment for all.
